PRP is available at both Hull and York clinics Introducing Platelet Rich Plasma PRP (often referred to as the ‘Vampire’ or ‘Dracula’ facelift). PRP is a safe and natural approach to anti-ageing and skin rejuvenation that harnesses our body’s own healing mechanism at an accelerated rate. This revolutionary treatment is a long term approach to slowing and reversing the ageing process by placing growth factors in the exact location where we want skin to repair and rejuvenate itself. PRP stimulates the skin cells to naturally produce more collagen and elastin, resulting in more a youthful appearance. The whole process of PRP usually takes 1 -1 ½ hours. Local anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated for 30 minutes before the treatment so that the treatment is not painful. A small amount of venous blood is then taken in the same way a standard blood test is obtained. The blood is then carefully centrifuged to separate the red blood cells from the platelet rich plasma (the part containing various growth factors). The plasma containing the most concentrated amount of growth factors, is then injected in to difficult to treat areas, such as under the eyes (to help with thin, creased skin and dark circles). The rest of the plasma is then injected to other areas in need of rejuvenation, such as the face, neck and décolletage. An improvement in skin texture and appearance is usually noticed within three weeks of the treatment (as the platelets begin to release growth factors), but further improvements are usually seen up to three months after the treatment. A second treatment may be required depending on the individual skin condition (4-6 weeks after the first) and results are expected to last 1 year to 18 months. There are minimal risks and side effects associated with PRP as the components are autologous (derived from your own body). After PRP treatment some swelling and redness may occur immediately which will quickly settle. Bruising may occur but this does not usually last beyond a few days.
