Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese treatment, involving the insertion of fine, sterile needles at certain sites in the body. The needles stimulate the sensory nerves under the skin and result in the release of the body’s natural pain killing substances; endorphins and encephalins. Acupuncture can he very helpful for people with chronic pain conditions with approximately 70-80% of people having a positive effect and improvement in the quality of their lives. Clare Eastwood, who is a Pain Specialist Sister in the NHS, uses western/ medical acupuncture.
